I first played the original Kirby Superstar long after Crystal Shards. In fact, I've always regarded Superstar as somewhat worse than Kirby's Adventure (which tops my list of great NES games, fuck SMB3). Still, Kirby is my favorite game series after Legend of Zelda and Half-Life, so I've always treasured Superstar as one of the best SNES games. So when I first heard a Kirby game was coming out that WASN'T that stupid Canvas Curse thing (although I had fun with that), I was pretty ecstatic. Kirby has always managed to stay as a 2D platformer, save his brief dabble into 3D during Crystal Shard (a great but over rated game) and 2D is where he needs to stay. It fits him better, and he always manages to be fuzzier when you can only see one side (aka The Kirbster Paradox).

You open the game with only a couple mini games available. Spring Breeze is Kirby's Adventure shortened and easy...ified, Dyna Blade is a new fun story mode, and Great Cave Offensive is "Collect Treasure, Eat everyone". As you beat various modes, you unlock others, with the classic METAKNIGHTMARE ULTRA! being my favourite. Even though I have yet to unlock two, maybe three modes, I'll go ahead and review each one I've got anyway.

Spring Breeze
My favorite NES game, with updated graphics, a few different bosses, and now with more "KIRBY CRUSH PUNY KRACKO" action. However, its short, and much too easy for a Kirby addict like yours truly.
3/5

Dyna Blade
A giant bird is "disrupting the crops." Even though I have never seen any kind of crop like food in Dreamland. All they ever eat is apples and stuff. Anyway, the only difference between these and Spring Breeze are a couple of bosses, the overview between levels, and Dyna the giant chicken. Again, too easy, but fun.
4/5

The Great Cave Offensive
Kirby falls down a hole, and now he's gotta go find treasure for no adequately explained reason. I only found about 2/3rds of the moolah, and its kinda maze like, but other then that, its easy. Gets tedious, but with the occasional boss fight (Fatty Whale = Win), its not too bad.
3/5

Gourmet Race
Nothing new here. First to the finish line while eating the most food wins. You're Kirby, you're against Dedede. Nice and fun though, and kinda relaxing.
4/5

Revenge of Meta Knight
MetaKnight is being a jackhole and messing with DreamLand, so Kirby decides to blow up the Halberd. All 7 missions are timed and give a sense of urgency and almost a false adrenaline rush, which is ridiculously fun.
5/5

Milky Way Wishes
Probably my favorite so far. In this, the sun and the moon are fighting, so you go to the giant mecha-sun in space (Nova Galactus) to wish for them to not fight. Now, the reason it's so cool is that instead of absorbing your enemies to gain your powers, you get trophies as you go through the levels. Once you get a trophy of a certain power, you can access said power at any time in game, making a game idea as original as Crystal Shards ability to combine power.
5/5

Revenge of the King
Dedede's back, and he's pissed. This is probably the hardest sub-game other then The Arena, and its pretty much just a MUCH harder Spring Breeze. Which is exactly what I want.
5/5

The Arena
You've fought 18 bosses in-game so far, from Dyna Blade to Dedede to Marx. Now fight them all AGAIN. Without healing. Great sub-game, but frustratingly hard.
4/5

Meta Knightmare Ultra
You play as MetaKnight because you can. Essentially, he gets bored, so he murders everything in every game above (Except Gourmet Race and The Arena)
5/5

Overall, its a VERY satisfying game, and far outshines its predecessor with new material and epic gameplay. Its glued me to the stupid DS since Christmas, and I personally blame it for any drop in grades.
