Street Fighter IV has been out for a while now, on consoles. It was recently released on PC as well, which I must say, is the best port I've ever played in my life, and I'm a Tetris fan, haha.

Before I start getting into the game mechanics, lets just look at the graphics for a moment. I mean, they're stunning.
They're no Crysis, but for a Street Fighter game, these graphics are brilliant, and stay true to the traditional Street Fighter look.
On the left is a screenshot I took in game, running at a silky smooth 60FPS, which is great for a fighting game, due to the precision needed for each carefully timed attack.
The original Street Fighter IV on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 didn't have the option for "filters" over the graphics like the PC version. |
| This is a picture of Street Fighter EX Plus a on the Play Station, where the "enchanced" section of the image (the best graphics I'd ever seen in a Street Fighter game), don't even compare to the graphics in Street Fighter IV for PC.
The character models just look great, the enviroments look great, and lighting is superb. If you're looking for a game with great graphics, but don't want your computer to absolutely shit itself, Street Fighter IV is a great choice, as it looks and performs great on most modern graphics cards. If you're confident you have a decent gaming computer, you'll have no probem maxing this game. |

Now, the biggest thing about any video game, is of course, the gameplay.
There's been a lot of criticism towards the 3D Street Fighter games, or, 3D fighting games in general I suppose. But definately, a huge argument between fans that the 3D Street Fighter titles, such as the EX series, have been sub-par/awful compared to their 2D counterparts. This is generally true, they ususally aren't as solid as the 2D installments, take EX3 on the PS2 for an example, that was a bad game. I'll let you find that out yourself.
But yeah, Street Fighter IV's gameplay is amazing, it feels like a modern day Street Fighter, just as it should, not trying to hard, no bullshit.
Now, controls is an issue for fighting games, always.
On PlayStation 3, the d-pad definately does you a favor, which is, you know, not being absolute shit like the Xbox 360's.
Yeah, I just said something about the PlayStation 3 was better than.. anything. And it's the truth.
Using the Xbox 360's d-pad is the worst expirience ever. It's so fucking clumbsy, I find my self throwing punches and jumping around like an idiot, instead of blowing the opposing character across the screen with a nice hadouken.
Now with this said, it's not the games fault, this problem has forever been present in fighting games on consoles, the controller's just never stand up to their original arcade versions. Lucky enough...

This, this is the best thing ever. Makes the game 100000x better.
Using this on any version of the game sure does make it a hell of a lot funner, espcially if you actually play the Arcade version in an arcade. But this thing has the same guts as the controlls in the arcade version, so you're getting a very similar expirence.

Now, character roster is great. There's only one problem... People use Ken wayyyy too much online, it gets really annoying hearing SHORYUKEN SHORYUKEN SHORYUKEN HADOUKEN SHORYUKEN SHORYUKEN HADOUKEN HADOUKEN SHORYUKEN SHORYUKEN, because all they do is spam his moves, watch out for that. |
Overall, I think this is a great game, great fighting machanics, great graphics, great sound, the FMV's are great, runs on most modern hardware at 60FPS, or slightly less. It's a well optimized game, and I'd reccommend it to any Street Figher fan.
