It seems as if SEGA have an obsession with giving the blue hedgehog gimmicks. People seem to think this makes the current Sonic games bad but I don't think this (aside from the hoverboards in Riders and the werehog in Unleashed which wasn't too bad but prevented it from being perfect). Now, I'm not saying this because I'm (almost) a die-hard Sonic fan but I really like the sword. I will admit I was skeptical at first and sure, it may be pointless Wiimote waggling that eventually give you shoulder cramps but it's the way Sonic uses the sword that makes it awesome particularly when he uses in the air and looks like a freaking buzz-saw.

The Black Knight is the second Sonic Storybook game, the first being the way-more-than-average Sonic And The Secret Rings which took place in the Arabian Nights stories. Merlina, the royal wizard and grand-daughter of Merlin, is running from The Black Knight's minions. She summons Sonic into the Arthurian Legend and requests his help. She reveals that The Black Knight is King Arthur gone drunk with power and gives him the sacred sword known as Caliburn. For some reason, the sword can talk and hates Sonic (so I guess he's the sword version of IGN). In The Secret Rings, familiar characters took the role of characters from The Arabian Nights i.e. Tails as Ali Baba and Knuckles as Sinbad. The Black Knight is no exception as characters take the role of Knights Of The Round Table. There are five knights though two of them you only see in multiplayer battle mode. The other three you can eventually play as in both Battle and Adventure mode.

First off, you got Shadow as Sir Lancelot. Lancelot was the greatest knight and it's only fitting with Shadow as he's definetely the best one (although this could be the Shadow fanboy in me talking). He takes a while to get used to, but it's worth it.

Shadow vs. Sonic
Their swords clashed, then Shadow smelt Sonics onion breath.

You've then got Knuckles as Sir Gawain (who looks so bad-ass with dual blades). He's awesome in this game and got me my first 5-star level rank.

Knuckles
We see Knuckles sporting the new brand of LEGO shoes.

Finally, You have Blaze The Cat as Sir Percival (don't ask why she's a Sir). Now, Blaze... I would say she's a great character but she takes a lot of getting used to. That said, she has some pretty cool moves.

Blaze
She may have some cool moves, but a cat in Knight's armor doesn't exactly strike fear...

The other two knights I mentioned are Silver as Sir Galahad and Jet The Hawk (from Sonic Riders) as Sir Lamorak. As I mentioned, they're only available in multiplayer.

Now, the complaints. Within the first hour, I was enjoying myself hacking up any fucker that got in my way (easy if I imagine evry one of them as my brother). 3 hours later, I was watching the credits. Now, granted, the first time the credits come in, it's the fake ending but even after that, it doesn't take long to see the real ending. The game's story is too short and I don't see why. It makes no sense. You've still get tons of missions to do afterwards so don't feel too ripped off. I'll let SEGA off this time, but they'd better make it up next time.
